Classes
Absolutely! No experience required! Search for ‘beginner’ once inside the platform to discover the classes TCE offers, just press play and follow along. You certainly aren’t limited to just these classes through. Nearly all classes will offer modifications and/or progressions to support your movements. And just remember, a little bit goes a long way. Very soon you’ll feel stronger and more confident to work your way up to those more challenging movements.
Anyone and everyone! Pilates is a fantastic way to move your body no matter your age, gender, shape or background. Come one, come all!
Abso-fricking-lutely! Did you know that Pilates was in fact invented by a man! Joseph Pilates was the mastermind behind what was then known as Contrology and he dedicated his entire life to improving his physical strength and fitness. Developing a system comprising of 34 exercises to transform the body, Pilates taught this repertoire to both men and women.
After JP passed away, his legacy was carried on by those who were his students. Contrology became Pilates and through the ages it evolved into the Pilates we know and love today. So, get your butt on the mat gents! I promise to give you a workout just as good, if not better than anything you’ve done before! You can hate me now and love me later 😉
Of course! I always want you to feel successful in your Pilates classes. Take a look at the video on how you can achieve ‘Success with props’ and let this be your guide. In this instance you can use a prop throughout any TCE class, even if it says prop free or if a specific prop is suggested.
Where to begin! There are so many benefits to Pilates, so let me list a few that stand out to me. If you have any aches and pains in your body, the movements that Pilates takes you through will ease these tremendously enabling you to move through life pain free. If you have tight hips, and find that you struggle with your mobility, Pilates will help you become more flexible and increase your mobility so that you can play with your kids again or simply pick something up from the floor easily. If you find yourself hunching over and rounding through your back, Pilates will help strengthen those muscles responsible for improving your posture so you can confidently stand taller.
Through Pilates you will gain strength, balance and control in the smaller muscles that will aid you in all your other endeavours. Whether you enjoy weightlifting, swimming, football or gymnastics, Pilates is a safe, low impact and incredibly effective way of movement that will give you back the freedom in your life that you deserve.
Yes! And oh, how wonderful it is to be able to keep you moving and support you through this special time. TCE follows the pregnancy guidelines outlined by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (ACOG). There are many benefits to exercise during pregnancy, however it is still important to discuss exercise with your obstetrician-gynaecologist (ob-gyn) before undertaking any type of exercise program.
Check in the class comments for “Pregnancy Safe” or head straight to the “Pregnancy Friendly” category for classes that are safe to do throughout your pregnancy. Let’s keep you comfortable! Before, during and after class ensure you drink enough water to stay hydrated and set up your mat in a cool, well ventilated space. Whilst pregnant we also want to avoid any fall risks or positions where you’re holding yourself still for long periods. After 20 weeks we’re going to keep you propped up on your back so you’re not lying flat on the mat, so grab a cushion, foam roller, yoga bolster or anything that gives you a nice comfy wedge.
Congratulations! Of course, I’d love to welcome you to the TCE community. Before doing so, please seek the guidance and approval of your health care professional before returning to any exercise program.
No problem, I’ve got you covered. Check out the ‘Weekly Schedule’ category for a new class each day. No more planning needed!
This includes:
– unlimited access to current and future classes for all levels
– weekly schedules that have been curated by yours truly and are updated weekly
– pre and post natal friendly classes
– any class challenges that are added in the future
Absolutely not. There are many classes that are entirely prop free and use only your own body weight! A Pilates or yoga mat is recommended for your own comfort, and if you would like to take a class that utilises props, TCE also offers a variety of classes that include the Pilates ball, ankle and hand weights, the magic circle, resistance bands and sliding discs.
TCE classes range from 5 to 60 minutes in length and can be mixed and matched to suit how you feel on any day of the week. Mix and match a 15 and 30 minute class to personalise your own practice, or roll out your mat for just 10 minutes and discover what you can achieve in a short amount of time.
The specific exercises Pilates classes take you through will certainly help to ease the discomfort in your body. With regular classes you will improve your strength, flexibility, mobility and posture. You will absolutely feel the difference with more freedom and less pain in your body.
Please note that if you have an underlying condition and/or require a specialised training program, this should be discussed with your healthcare professional and a more specialised approach may be required from a specialist in this area.
Together with the right mindset and nutrition, Pilates will indeed change your body. I am a very big believer of looking inwards and reconnecting with yourself when it comes to matters like this. Will you lose 20kgs with Pilates alone?.. I can’t promise you this. But what I can do is provide you with a fun and engaging way to move that will change your outlook on exercise. I know this because Pilates has definitely changed my body and I no longer look at exercise as a gruelling thing I have to do, simply because I’ve found a way of moving that I truly enjoy and that works for me.
I encourage you to find a way of moving that you love, and to reward your body with nutritious meals that will keep you energised. Does this mean that you have to eat a lettuce leaf and call it a meal? Heck no! I sure as shit don’t. I really believing in listening to your body.. and if that means that today you eat a well balanced meal and tomorrow you absolutely need to eat 5 cookies, then give yourself the permission to do that guilt free. If today you do a 40 minute Pilates class with 2kg ankle weights and tomorrow all you can muster is a walk.. be kind to yourself and understand that just like nature, our bodies go through seasons of feeling full of energy and feeling depleted, and we need to honour that, with love.
If you’re just starting out and perhaps haven’t done much exercise in the past, first of all.. welcome! And I’m so excited that you’re here! Movement is so beneficial for you and so I would suggest taking a look at the prop free classes, the beginner category and also the classes of around 20-30 minutes. In my experience, a shorter class done more often is more beneficial than a long, super hard class done once a week. Listen to your body and ask yourself what you feel you can achieve today, and be sure to give yourself enough rest.
If you’re a seasoned pro, then I’m sure you can handle a little more. The beauty of working out online is that the world is your oyster! You’re in control of how often you choose to take a class and also for how long! If you feel sore a day or two after class, just know that this sensation is completely normal and with practice and patience, you will get stronger in places you didn’t even know you had muscles!
Overall, Pilates is a wonderful way to move your body and will help to increase your overall flexibility, strength, fitness and mindset. The benefits of following a variety of classes include noticing less discomfort in your body, more freedom of movement and general overall wellbeing. For specific classes on rehabilitation.. watch this space 😉
Currently TCE does not offer live classes, but this is perhaps something that will be considered in the future. In person classes are available for one-on-one, semi-private or small group classes. For enquiries and corporate class opportunities, please contact hello@thecoreeffectpilates.com.
